Stacey Petrek is an Associate in the firm's Litigation Group. She represents clients in complex commercial matters at both the state and federal level. She is experienced in handling a wide range of matters, including insurance coverage disputes, breach of contract actions, business tort claims, trade secret cases, class action defense, and white collar crime and government investigations.

She regularly drafts a wide variety of memoranda, briefs, motions and pleadings, including summary judgment briefs, interpleader and FOIA complaints, motions to exclude, and research memoranda on legal questions pertaining to commercial litigations. She also has experience with mediation in the insurance context, having served as lead associate in a matter in which she prepared statements and reviewed and analyzed documents pre-discovery.

Prior to joining Goldberg Kohn in July 2022, Stacy practiced as a litigation associate at a preeminent insurance coverage firm as well as with a global law firm where she handled breach of contract actions, business torts, insurance coverage disputes, intellectual property, trade secret, copyright and trademark infringement cases, class action defense, product liability cases, and white collar criminal and governmental investigations.

From September 2019 to August 2020, Stacy was a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Raymond W. Mitchell of the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Chancery Division.

While attending the University of Chicago Law School, she was a research assistant for Prof. Martha C. Nussbaum and served as a student volunteer at the Edwin F. Mandel Legal Aid Clinic. In addition, she participated in the University of Chicago Law School’s 2016 "Money in Law and Literature Conference," presenting "'Stephen, how like you this play?': Examining the Influence of Money on the Artist in James Joyce's Ulysses." She also participated in the law school's Edward W. Hinton Moot Court Competition.

Prior to pursuing her law degree, Stacy had a career as a paralegal and as a professional liability analyst for a leading professional liability insurance company. In addition, she was a teaching fellow at Syracuse University and the recipient of a Fulbright Award Grant. She also held writing instructor and writing consultant positions.
